Why 5.2 mm is a genuinely notable number
Most implants are 8 mm to 13 mm long. Anything at or below 6 mm counts as ultra-short, and bredent's 5.2 mm option is among the shortest implants on the market.
bredent states the copaSKY ultra-short is designed for patients with low bone supply, and that in many cases this length makes it possible to avoid bone reconstruction surgery. The company positions it specifically for cases where bone height above the sinus or the mandibular nerve is limited, noting the implant's self-cutting design and its suitability across soft, medium and hard bone.
What this could mean for your treatment plan
If you have been quoted a sinus lift or a vertical bone graft, the alternative is not “short implant versus long implant in perfect bone”. It is “short implant now” versus “graft, several months of healing, then a longer implant”. That second route means an extra surgical procedure, extra cost, extra months, and an extra thing that can fail.
The broad picture from the published literature is that short implants in the back of the jaw perform comparably to longer implants placed in grafted bone over medium-term follow-up. That is a meaningful finding, and it is why short implants have moved from a compromise to a mainstream option.
The honest qualifications
A short implant has less bone contact and a less favourable crown-to-implant ratio, more leverage acting on less anchorage. That places greater demands on placement accuracy, on the bite, and on how the crown is shaped. Long-term data beyond ten to fifteen years is still accumulating.
These are reasons for careful case selection by an experienced dentist, not reasons to dismiss the option. But if a short implant is proposed, ask how your bite will be managed and whether the crown will be kept out of heavy contact.
A question worth asking
If you have been told you need a sinus lift or a graft, it is entirely reasonable to ask: “Would an ultra-short implant avoid this, and if not, why not?” There are legitimate reasons the answer may be no. But it deserves a specific clinical answer, because a graft is a significant addition to your treatment.
bredent's best-known product, BioHPP, is a ceramic-reinforced high-performance polymer used for abutments and frameworks, the parts fitted on top of an implant.
