Who bredent is
bredent is a family-owned German company founded in 1974 in Senden, Bavaria. It began in dental laboratory materials rather than implants, which explains the shape of the company today: it is unusually strong on the prosthetic side, the crowns, frameworks and attachments, and its implant range grew out of that rather than the other way round. The company styles its name in lower case.
BioHPP: the part most often misunderstood
BioHPP is bredent's best-known product and it is not an implant material. It is a ceramic-reinforced high-performance polymer based on PEEK, supplied as pellets, granules and milling blanks, and used to make abutments, frameworks and prosthetic superstructures, the parts fitted on top of an implant that has already integrated.
bredent notes that PEEK has been used as an implant material in surgery for over 35 years, and that the appeal lies in biocompatible material properties whose stiffness is closer to that of the bone skeleton than metal is.
Bone is a living tissue that responds to load. Metal is far stiffer than bone, so a rigid metal framework transmits chewing forces to the bone abruptly. A material whose stiffness sits closer to bone's own deforms slightly under load and spreads that force out over time instead. The theory is that this reduces stress concentration at the implant. bredent's research collection includes a study of peri-implant marginal bone loss under immediate loading and a clinical study of a ceramic-reinforced PEEK-titanium hybrid abutment, both examining exactly this question.
bredent publishes a substantial collection of BioHPP studies covering material properties, bond strength to veneering resins, breaking loads, cleanability and bacterial attachment. Much of this is laboratory work, in vitro testing rather than long-term patient follow-up, and it is compiled and distributed by the manufacturer. Laboratory data on breaking strength is genuinely useful engineering evidence. It is not the same as knowing how these components perform in mouths over twenty years, and it should not be presented as though it were.
The SKY implant family
bredent's implants sit under the SKY name, differentiated by material, connection and diameter. The range is notably broad at the extremes, copaSKY is documented down to ultra-short lengths for cases with very limited bone height, and narrowSKY and miniSKY cover the opposite constraint of very limited width.

Practical considerations for patients in Canada
Availability. bredent is far more established in Germany and continental Europe than in Canada. If you are offered a bredent implant here, ask specifically about component supply over the long term.
Where the strength genuinely lies. If your case is complex on the prosthetic side, a full arch, a hybrid framework, a denture needing precise attachments, bredent's laboratory heritage is a real advantage, and Docklocs and BioHPP frameworks are well-developed products.
Very short and very narrow implants. The ultra-short copaSKY options may be relevant if you have been told you need a sinus lift or a substantial graft. Whether a short implant is preferable to grafting is a genuine clinical debate, and worth raising directly.
