It is owned by Straumann, manufactured at scale, and sold well below Straumann prices, but it is a separate system with its own components, not a discounted Straumann.

Who Neodent is
Neodent was founded in 1993 in Curitiba, Brazil, and grew to dominate the Brazilian implant market, a market with high demand and firm price ceilings, which shaped the company toward high-volume, cost-controlled manufacturing. The Straumann Group acquired a controlling stake in 2012.
That acquisition is the reason Neodent is worth a patient's attention. Straumann did not buy Neodent to make it a second premium brand; it bought a way to compete in the value segment without discounting its own name. Neodent is now sold worldwide as the Group's value-tier system.
It does mean corporate-level manufacturing standards, regulatory infrastructure, and a parent company very unlikely to disappear, which matters for component availability decades from now. It does not mean you are getting a Straumann implant. Grand Morse is a different connection with different components; Straumann parts will not fit it. It also does not transfer Straumann's evidence base: the research supporting Straumann implants was conducted on Straumann implants.
Decoding the terminology
Grand Morse is Neodent's conical connection. A Morse taper is a simple, old and very effective engineering principle, push a tapered shaft into a matching tapered socket and friction locks them together tightly. In implants, a well-made conical connection resists micro-movement and limits the tiny gap where bacteria can accumulate. This is mainstream modern design, shared in principle with Straumann's TorcFit and Nobel's conical connection.
Acqua is Neodent's hydrophilic (water-attracting) surface; NeoPoros is the standard roughened surface. The relationship between them mirrors Straumann's SLActive and SLA: the hydrophilic version is intended to speed early healing.
If you have been quoted a Neodent implant and are wondering whether you are being short-changed, the fair answer is no, you are getting a competently engineered, corporately backed implant using mainstream design principles. What you are giving up relative to a premium system is the depth of independent long-term research and the sheer number of Canadian dentists familiar with the system. Whether that trade is worth several hundred dollars is a legitimate question to put to your dentist directly.

Frequently asked questions
Is Neodent the same as Straumann?
No. Neodent is owned by the Straumann Group but is a separate implant system with its own connection and its own components. Neodent parts do not fit Straumann implants.
Is a Neodent implant lower quality because it costs less?
Lower cost here reflects positioning and manufacturing scale rather than a compromise in manufacturing standards. Neodent is produced under the same corporate group as Straumann. The meaningful differences are the size of the independent evidence base and how long the system has been established in Canada.
