Why an aggressive thread and a conical joint
Two design decisions aimed at the same clinical situation. The aggressive thread cuts and condenses bone as the implant is driven in, which is how an implant achieves grip in a fresh extraction socket or in soft bone, the primary stability without which an implant can micro-move during healing and fail to integrate.
The conical connection locks the abutment by friction between matching tapered surfaces. It resists micro-movement under chewing load and narrows the microscopic gap where bacteria gather. Straumann's TorcFit, Nobel's conical connection and Neodent's Grand Morse work the same way.
Together they target the immediate-placement case: get the implant tight on day one, and seal the joint well enough that the bone at the top is protected.
Two connections in one range
Implant Direct runs an internal hex system (Legacy) and a conical system (InterActive). Their components are not interchangeable. If your records say only “Implant Direct” that is not enough to order a replacement part, the connection type is what determines fit.
Compatibility
Part of Implant Direct's proposition is that its connections match those of established systems. In practice mixing usually works, but “compatible” is a manufacturer's word, not a regulatory one, tolerances, alloys and screw mechanics can differ. The useful question is not “is it compatible?” but “which specific components will you use, and are they the manufacturer's own?” Mixing parts across makers can also complicate warranty claims.
