What a simplified protocol means
Placing an implant conventionally means working through a sequence of progressively wider drills to prepare the bone. A simplified protocol reduces the number of steps. Fewer drill changes means less time with the site open, less handling, and fewer opportunities for error.
For you this mostly translates into a shorter appointment. It is a genuine convenience for the surgeon and a modest benefit to you, not a difference in the implant's long-term performance.
Newer is not automatically better
Simply Iconic has a shorter clinical track record than Legacy, which Implant Direct markets on more than 19 years of use. That is inherent to any newer system and not a criticism. But if you are choosing between them, “newer” is not by itself a reason, ask what it does better for your case specifically.
On the supporting literature
Two documents in Implant Direct's public literature for this system are trade-magazine question-and-answer pieces with individual dentists. Those are marketing, not clinical evidence, and should be read as such. A practitioner's positive experience is worth something, but it is not a controlled study and should not be presented as one.
Compatibility
Part of Implant Direct's proposition is that its connections match those of established systems. In practice mixing usually works, but “compatible” is a manufacturer's word, not a regulatory one, tolerances, alloys and screw mechanics can differ. The useful question is not “is it compatible?” but “which specific components will you use, and are they the manufacturer's own?” Mixing parts across makers can also complicate warranty claims.
Questions worth asking your dentist
- What does Simply Iconic do better than Legacy for my case?
- How long have you been placing it, and how many?
- What connection type does it use, and what components does that commit me to?
- Will this be placed with the DIRECTguide workflow?
- What is the total cost difference against a premium system?
- Will you record the system, connection, platform and reference number in writing?
