What the aggressive thread is for

The central difficulty of placing an implant into a fresh extraction socket, or into the soft bone at the back of the upper jaw, is getting it tight enough at the moment of placement. Without that initial grip, primary stability, the implant can move microscopically during healing and fail to integrate.

NobelActive's answer is a sharply tapered body with a pronounced thread that cuts and condenses bone as it is driven in. It also allows the surgeon some ability to adjust the implant's direction during placement, which is useful when a socket's shape is pulling the implant off the intended path.

Restorative flexibility

NobelActive supports Nobel's full NobelProcera CAD/CAM prosthetic range as well as prefabricated abutments. In practice this means your crown can be a stock component or milled specifically for your mouth, depending on what the site needs. For a front tooth, a custom abutment shaped to your gum contour usually gives the better aesthetic result, and usually costs more.

TiUnite and TiUltra

Older NobelActive implants carry TiUniteNobel's long-established anodised surface with a very large clinical record. Newer variants carry TiUltra, described by Nobel as a graded surface whose porosity changes along the implant, less porous near the gum, more porous where bone contact is wanted. Both are in current Canadian distribution, so it is worth asking which you are getting.

Record your connection type

Nobel runs four incompatible connection families, external hex, tri-channel, conical and trioval conical. Components do not cross between them. Whatever you receive, get the connection type, platform and reference number written down; it determines which parts can ever be fitted to your implant. The brand page has a diagram of all four.
